Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Penguin

I didn't one hundred percent believe I was gay. Or maybe I didn't think it was permanent . . .

Simon Spier is sixteen and trying to work out who he is - and what he's looking for. But when one of Simon's emails to the mysterious Blue falls into the wrong hands, things get all kinds of complicated.

If Mum thinks me drinking coffee is big news it's going to be quite a morning.

Can Simon find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed or is it already too late for him and the the most adorable guy he's never met?

The thing is, once you come out, you can't really go back in.

Because, for Simon, falling for Blue is a big deal . . .

It's a holy freaking huge awesome deal.

The best kind of book challenges your assumptions and opens your eyes to a new way of thinking about the world. The best kind of romance makes you forget age, gender and sexual orientation, and sweeps you off your feet.

SIMON is the best kind of both.

Fazit: Super süss, witzig und einfach toll!

Geraldine Chantal Daphne Dettwiler, Buchhandlung Basel

Schreibstil Englische Ausgabe: Wow! «„No, just,“ Nick says, „like actual weird dreams. Like I dreamed I was in the bathroom putting on my contacs, and I couldn’t figure out which lens went in which eye.“ „Okay. So then what?“ „Nothing. I woke up, I put my contacts in like normal, and everything is fine.“» Ich hätte das Buch wohl nicht gelesen, wenn meine Freundinnen Sofi und Fiona nicht so sehr davon geschwärmt hätten. «“What's a dementor?" I mean, I can't even. "Nora, you are no longer my sister." "So it's some Harry Potter thing," she says.”» «Okaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy. (Eyebrows, butthole mouth, etc.) -Blue» Fazit: Super süss, witzig und einfach toll!

Simon Spier has it all: he is an average boy with very close friends and a loving family. But he knows he is different and he is not ready to tell the others yet. When someone finds out about Simon's secret and takes his opportunity to come out when and how he thinks suitable away from him his world turns upside down. On one hand Simon has to learn about extortion, prejudice and betrayal the hard way but on the other hand there is love, real friendship and acceptance that will always be stronger than anything else. Lovely Coming-of-Age-Story that provides the confidence you need to be who you are!

Einfach toll!

Relatable, cute, hilarious, the book you should be reading right now

All I ever do is come out. I try not to change, but I keep changing, in all these tiny ways. I get a girlfriend. I have a beer. And every freaking time, I have to reintroduce myself to the universe all over again.” This is probably the most relatable book I ever read – and it wasn’t even just because of Simon’s struggle with his sexual orientation. Simon’s character speaks to me on a much deeper level. His story is witty and sweet, and also has some degree of suspense to it – I honestly didn’t know who Blue was until shortly before it was revealed. Entertaining from the first page, with a wonderful writing style and such great and relatable characters, this is exactly what I want from a LGBTQ+ book. Spare me the drama and the inevitable deaths, just give me more of this fluffy goodness.
