Loved it

Recommend this to everyone who appreciates a good character driven story. Backman does not fail to make you feel like being a member of the small community of Beartown. You witness how the different people of Beartown deal with themes like trauma, loss, racism, homophobia, misogyny - how they eventually learn to find their place... Recommend this to everyone who appreciates a good character driven story. Backman does not fail to make you feel like being a member of the small community of Beartown. You witness how the different people of Beartown deal with themes like trauma, loss, racism, homophobia, misogyny - how they eventually learn to find their place in a community that values tradition and is trying nothing but to survive in the midst of the wilderness. The love between certain characters is so beautifully conveyed that it moved me to tears. As in "A Man Called Ove" the focus is on a deeper connection between them - on gratitude, loyalty, friendship and appreciation. Backman is an author who does not give you a superficial story but rather a story that feels real, authentic and reflects the lives of so many. I love all of Backman's works - this one especially.

100% recommend it, just not for public reading

This book ripped me to shreds. It made me cry in a train station. I do not recommend this for public transportation, but I do recommend it for everyone to read. I had some issues with the pacing of the novel but overall the story touched me so deeply that I still gave it the highest rating. And I think it is best to go into it, ... I had some issues with the pacing of the novel but overall the story touched me so deeply that I still gave it the highest rating. And I think it is best to go into it, without knowing anything about it!
