Beschreibung

Praise for Sleeping Giants 'This year's The Martian... if you want a captivating story with some serious sci-fi elements and dark undertones, this is it! So good and so eerie' Buzzfeed

'This stellar début novel...masterfully blends together elements of sci-fi, political thriller and apocalyptic fiction ... so much more than the sum of its parts-a page-turner of the highest order!' Kirkus Reviews (Starred Review)

'First-time novelist Sylvain Neuvel does a bold, splashy cannonball off the high dive with Sleeping Giants. It bursts at the seams with big ideas and the questions they spawn-How much human life is worth sacrificing in the pursuit of scientific progress? Can humanity be trusted with weapons of ultimate destruction? And the biggest: Are we alone? But all that really matters is that this book is a sheer blast from start to finish. I haven't had this much fun reading in ages' Blake Crouch, author of Dark Matter and the bestselling 'Wayward Pines trilogy'

'As high-concept as it is, Sleeping Giants is a thriller through and through. . . . One of the most promising series kickoffs in recent memory' NPR

'Reminiscent of The Martian and World War Z, Sleeping Giants is a luminous conspiracy yarn that shoots for (and lands among) the stars' Pierce Brown, New York Times bestselling author of Red Rising

Sylvain Neuvel has a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Chicago. He is an amateur robotics enthusiast and life-long fan of all things science fiction.
Sleeping Giants is the first in the Themis Files series, followed by
Waking Gods and
Only Human.

Fazit: Megamässig gute Fortsetzung!

Geraldine Chantal Daphne Dettwiler, Buchhandlung Basel

Erstens einmal: WOW! Das war eine geniale Fortsetzung!!!!! Kein Füllerband, kein zweites Buch Syndrom, einfach nur genial! Kein Kapitel ist unnötig, alles passt! «While I am reasonably confident you are not “the chosen one,” you are without doubt one who has been chosen.» «[..]The fairy is crushed by the news and flies away crying, leaving behind a talking squirrel. Being the only talking squirrel in the park, he lived a wretched life, scaring the living hell out of everyone. -Is that the end? -Yes! What do you think? -I...I enjoy squirrel storys and found yours very entertaining. You conveyed the desperation of Little Lary really well and I was saddened by the news of his demise. With that in mind- and I hope you will not judge me too harshly for my lack of perspicacty- what could this possibly have to do with the aliens in london?» Seufz! Mein Nerd Herz schlägt höher! Was will man mehr? «Go home and tell your family you love them. Tell them ten times, a hundred times. Do it while you can. And if we somehow survive this, keep doing it. In the end, it’s all that really matters.»

Continues to amaze!

The storyline continues to be even better, there are surprises and some sad parts too. All in all it's very convincing and I love it, can't wait to read Only Human!

I changed my mind. I don’t want a movie. Netflix!!!! I want an original series from you, ASAP!!!

It’s been ten years since the first book ended. It’s been ten years since the first book ended. Ten years since our two pilots have revealed the big Alien-Robot Themis to the world, dropped said robot into the ocean, been subjected to various tests by a mad scientist (who even took samples of their sperm and ovaries to produce children) and brought the robot back to the surface so that they could share it with the world. And it’s been ten years since the UN created a special department just for that specific Mega-Alien-Robot, with our two pilots as the only ones who could operate it. And what have they done in those ten years? Parading Themis around, that’s basically it. But suddenly a new Robot transports himself in the middle of London. Why is he here, what will he do and, even more important, what will our two Pilots do? I liked the second book even more than the first one, and I am really surprised by that. I didn’t know how Sylvain could make it better. Because frankly the story of the second book isn’t anything special, but then again, the story of the first book wasn’t anything special too. Like the first one this book here lives because of its characters and their stories. But while the first one was intriguing, well written, intelligent and exciting, the second one was all that plus it was more emotional. At least to me it was! I can’t remember when the last time was, that I felt so much for fictional characters. A really great sequel to a really great book!

Epicness has grown

3,5 stars Well, that escalated quickly. The epicness has grown in this book so much. It's much more badass with twists that I definitely did not see coming. Like, AT ALL. The epicness has grown in this book so much. It's much more badass with twists that I definitely did not see coming. Like, AT ALL. I'm still not over that one twist which totally caught me off guard. Respect to the author for that bold move, man. Now, this book might have more epicness than the first one but I felt even more distant to the characters than in its predecessor. I was actually a little bit bored at the end of the book and did not fully understand what exactly happened. But that ending has left me wanting more. Please, let there be another book!
